Kia Sedona Named IIHS Top Safety Pick

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has named the 2016 Kia Sedona as one of the top safety pick vehicles for the second year in a row. Having the top score of “good” in all five of the IIHS crash tests, this vehicle is remarkably one of the safest on the road.

The Kia Sedona scored “good” in the following crash tests:

Small overlap front

Moderate overlap front

Roof strength

Head restraints & seats

In their detailed report, the IIHS Crash Testers indicated that the driver’s survival space was maintained very well, due to the dummy’s position in relation to surrounding areas. The dummy’s movement was very well controlled, with a minimum risk of any significant injuries.

The Sedona has many standard safety options such as; Dual front airbags, front seat mounted side airbags, full length curtain airbags, rollover mitigation, front seat belt pretensions, cornering brake control, hill start assist control, and many more.

The 2016 Kia Sedona is all equipped and ready to give you and your passengers a piece of mind while on the road.

Kia Sedona Named Cars.com's Best Minivan

The Kia Sedona was voted as cars.com's best minivan in a review of every minivan on the road today. Even when compared to the Chrysler Town and Country, Dodge Grand Caravan, Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna, none were better than the Sedona.

In this test, cars.com used six test drivers -- including reporters from cars.com and parents shopping for a minivan. They have taken the cars on test drives, reviewed the safety scores and specs and picked the Sedona as their favorite.

"Quality and refinement," was described in the report. The judges liked the look, the ride, the features and second row seats. The Sedona had the best design of any minivan tested. The bold front wide-opened grille and thin headlights look more like a sporty crossover than a minivan.  In fact, the test drivers say you will look "almost cool driving this minivan."

A smooth and quiet ride was also a favorite among the judges. "If you are looking for peace and quiet, the Sedona is your best bet in this group," judges said. Kia worked to make the Sedona a better ride this year with a standard 3.3 liter V6 engine that produces 276 horsepower.

Cool features also put the Sedona on top. This vehicle is loaded with great technology and judges liked the available backup camera, calling it helpful when getting in and out of tight parking spaces. The loaded model they drove was the only one to offer heated and cooled leather seats, plus they liked all the smartphone integrations.

Don't forget that the Sedona comes with the UVO system that integrates with Apple's Siri. Use your voice to control your music, Bluetooth hands-free phone and even set the temperature. And the Sedona also partners with Google so you can save a map route.

And not surprising, the judges liked the second-row seats. The Sedona has optional reclining second row seats, turning the vehicle into a LA-Z-BOY to stretch out and relax on the long ride. In fact, judges say "Passengers will call shotgun to sit there, not up front."

There were ten categories the judges tested on. Kia won five of them:

1. Acceleration and Braking

2. Handling

3. Ride

4. Noise

5. Tech and Entertainment

Kia receives bonus points for earning both an IIHS Top Safety Pick and and five-star crash test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

2016 Kia Sedona Earns Five Star Crash Rating

The 2016 Kia Sedona has earned a five star crash rating from the government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This is one of the top distinctions any vehicle can earn for safety, because it comes right from the federal government. Along with its top overall score, the Sedona also earned a five-star score in front and side crash tests as well.

For its front crash tests, NHTSA simulates what happens when you hit a barrier head-on at 35 MPH. Using both male and female drivers and passengers, the NHTSA scored the Sedona with the top five-star score.

Then for its side crash tests, NHTSA simulates what happens when the van hits a side barrier and a side pole. In both of those crashes, using both male and female drivers and passengers, the Sedona earned a five-star crash rating.

NHTSA did not find any safety issues like recalls, investigations, complaints or service bulletins. The Sedona did receive extra credit for optional forward collision warning and rearview camera.

The Sedona is also an IIHS Top Safety Pick, and comes with great optional safety features like Electronic Stability Control, Concerning Brake Control and a body made of more than 55% of high strength steel.
