2017 Kia Niro Review

The 2017 Kia Niro is a brand-new hybrid crossover SUV. The highlight of the vehicle is its 52 highway miles per gallon and eco friendly engineering. The Niro has a great design and plenty of room for both people and cargo. Add in the great tech options, and we think you'll easily fall in love with the 2017 Kia Niro.

Brand New Vehicle

The Niro debuted in January 2017 as a brand new vehicle from the Kia brand. It has an EPA estimated 50 MPG combined city/highway with a nearly 600 mile fuel range. It has an all-new 1.6L gasoline engine for high efficiency and a sportier feel. That's combined with an electric motor and lithium battery for a spirited drive. At its peak, the Niro will achieve 52 miles per gallon on the highway, according to the EPA.

Gear shifts are smooth thanks to an all-new 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The Niro is an engineering wonder with regenerative braking. Kinetic energy is captured in the motor and that energy is used to recharge the battery itself.

Active grille shutters automatically close at 35 mph to diminish drag and preserver more fuel. With the optional navigation system installed, GPS data will advise the driver when to lift off the gas and preserve even more fuel.

Crossover Body

One of the biggest complaints about Hybrids is their ugly design. The Kia Niro helps the hybrid shed that reputation with its beautiful design both inside and out. It has a bold, athletic stance with optional LED headlights, fog lights, beautiful alloy wheels, chrome accents and a rear spoiler.

It's longer and wider than comparable crossovers from Honda and Toyota. You can comfortably fit five people inside and you'll still get 19.4 cubic feet of cargo volume. It's easy to fold down the seats, and then the cargo volume increases to 54.5 cubic feet. Inside it's a comfortable ride with ample head space and leg room for everyone.  This will be a great vehicle for small families. We also think it's going to be a great vehicle for traveling with pets.

Great Standard Options

The Kia Niro will come in five trim levels with a starting MSRP of $22,890. Even at the base model, the Kia Niro is loaded with features. Every Niro comes standard with Bluetooth for hands-free calling. Every model also comes standard with a backup camera.

It has a standard 7-inch color touch screen display, and every Niro includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.  This fairly new technology is the safest way to stay connected while driving. Your phone's screen is displayed on the car's touch-screen center console. From there you can make phone calls, send text messages and have texts read through the speakers, access Apple or Google Maps and even use apps like Pandora, Facebook, Spotify, Stitcher, Skype, Audiobooks, iHeartRadio, MLB At Bat, and more.

Some of the other standard features include 16-inch alloy wheel, a USB and Auxiliary port, cruise control, power locks and windows, air, keyless entry, and cloth seats.

As you climb the trims, the Niro adds things like navigation, heated leather seats, push button ignition, heated mirrors, heated steering wheel, sunroof, fog lights, and rear USB ports.
